Kindle Delight  
Purchased for my wife for Christmas. I cant tell you how delighted she is with it. The "read to" feature is a huge plus and she uses it all the time when working around the house. Great with or without headphones. She also likes it for travel to reduce bulk on the airplane. Downloading books is a cinch. : 2010-09-18 04:41:26

Best gift for Christmas  
My daughter usually takes up to 5 books on vacation with us. She now takes her Kindle with her. Whether its the beach or the gym its always along for the task. Only draw back so far is no more reading in the pool or tub. Shes had it a year and the joy hasnt worn off. Probably best for the "younger generation of readers" as her mom needs the feel and the smell of the book to truly appreciate the reading experience. Kindle - overseas buyers beware  
Ive been following the kindle forum for a while eagerly awaiting the arrival of Kindle 3. Good news! It appeared to rave reviews and I ordered one at $139 to be sent to France. I let myself be tempted by a lighted leather cover as well price $59.99 grand order total.... $281.77. No nothing wrong with the math just that the total for non-US residents includes $22.03 shipping plus $97.11 import fees deposit. Gulp. But OK there was no alternative and I desperately wanted my Kindle...Fortunately (as it turns out) the Kindle wasnt immediately available so Amazon said theyd ship it separately specifying that I wouldnt have to pay two shipping fees. Then a message was sent infoming me that the leather cover had been shipped. Did I read the message carefully? No. How silly am I? Very. It is only today with delivery of the cover that I find out exactly how much this little jewel has cost me. Fantastic Hardware: A Disappointment for Reference Books  
After just a few hours I am contemplating sending this back. Imagine carrying many reference books with you at all times. A dream.

PROS:

It is a wonderful device and I am sure it is excellent for serial reading (novels etc.)

The screen contrast is amazing. It really does look like paper. It is small and light.

CONS:

My big need was for quickly getting around reference documents and it is horrible for that.

I suppose this is a review of content more than the device with little to no linking.

There is a search function but not very impressive.

It takes so long to find something I am not sure it is worthwhile.

Library in my pocket  
I am a die hard bibliophile. I love the feel of a book in my hands. But living in a small apartment space is at a premium and my library would suffer otherwise if not for my Kindle. I have my shelves reserved for my "special" books. Everything else goes on my Kindle. The battery life is wonderful. It is easy on the eyes. It is the perfect size. It even plays my audible books. And I was able to load it up with books before it even arrived! I would definitely recommend it. : 2010-09-17 03:20:45

Kindle - YES YES YES!!!  
What an awesome product.
Received my Kindle in South Africa extremely quickly after ordering (thanks Amazon) eagerly ripped the packaging apart and literally tried for 3 minutes to carefully remove the picture that was "pasted" on the screen!!!!!.......only to discover that it was a screen displayed picture :) Seeing is believing. Screen resolution is awesome to say the least.

Since then I havent looked back Ive already ordered and read about 35 books in the few months that Ive owned this product.

Dont however believe everything that they say about this Kindle:
1) the battery does NOT last for two weeks with the wireless switched off - it lasts longer!
2) reading in direct sunlight.....OK.....it really works!
3) easy to download new books...nope...WAY too easy......my credit card is taking strain :)
4) ......now my mom wants to claim it for herself.......will probably have buy her one for Xmas / Birthday.

Problems galore.  
I bought this product for my birthday on January 5 2010. Since that date Ive had to exchange the Kindle no less than four times! One wouldnt let me hear audiobooks two had battery problems one fell from my bed and shattered (my bed being like a foot tall so not a big distance). I am not pleased. : 2010-09-16 17:21:32

I liked my Kindle a lot. Im a big reader especially when it comes to philosophy and classics such as 1984 Fahrenheit 451 (Which unfortunately is not available on the Kindle store) and Flowers for Algernon. If youre one of those people that wants all of your books in one place and get tired of those bulky books trying to hold them while youre reading then Id definitely say check the kindle out.

Pros: Anti-glare screen- It really is. I think this is the easiest screen to read off of Ive ever had.
Memory Size- I mean txt files and pdf files were never really that big but come on people! I love having hundreds of books in one place. We all get tired of one book in the airport or the coffee shop or even the office.
Keyboard layout- I have big hands so its hard to type on those small buttons. Im not going to say these buttons are bigger but they are definitely spread out more so it makes it easier to type.

Screen Died  
The screen died after 15 months. One year warranty--so pretty convenient for Amazon. Amazon will not fix but requires me to either buy a new Kindle or a refurbished one that only comes with a 90-day warranty. This appears to be a common problem and I have little confidence that it wont happen with the next device.

Great way to read on a plane and for travel  
Bought one for my fiance at Xmas and then she ended up getting one for me for my birthday. Love it since I travel a fair amount and this is a great way to carry a few books. Only thing I am bummbed about is that they now just released a newer version that is supposed to be better. Oh Well cant have em all. Thinking about buying the newer one for my son (10 YO) who likes to carry way to many books to read in his back pack. They have a cheaper option that just might be good for an XMAS present coming up.

Miracle for sight Impaired  
My mom is suffering from macular degeneration and was having all kinds of trouble reading. Books that she could find in large print are very big and heavy as well as limited selection. When my wife purchased a Kindle we immediately thought of my Mom. She does not own or use a computer but she was up and running in a few days and I do mean running. For people with poor sight this is wonderful thing. The fact that you dont need internet connectivity is a plus for her. Also the size and weight is another big plus.
